Stephen is a Filipino-American Director and Writer based in New York City.
For three years he worked closely with Magnum photographer Jim Goldberg
before becoming an MFA Candidate at
Columbia University’s Graduate Film Program.
Stephen's last narrative film,
Manila is Full of Men Named Boy, premiered in competition at the 75th
Venice Film Festival and continued on to the Busan International Film Festival, Festival du Court Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand, and SXSW. The film was honored with Best U.S. Short at the 25th Palm Springs International Shortsfest, among other awards.
He is an alumnus of the Artist Academy held by the 57th New York Film Festival.
Stephen is currently writing his first feature, In The Shade Hardly Any Sun.
Additionally, Stephen works as an Editor. Most recently, he cut the feature
Eyimofe (This is My Desire) which premiered at the 71st Berlinale. He also edited Entre tú y Milagros which premiered in competition at the
77th Venice Film Festival and was awarded Best Short.
